COPPER MOUNTAIN
SKI RESORT IN SUMMIT COUNTY COLORADO
The
real estate around
Copper Mountain Colorado has a rich history. It was back In the mid 1800s when
the "49ers" discovered Summit County and the opportunities for wealth it
offered. Mining towns sprung up like mushrooms throughout central Colorado and
copper was one of the minerals discovered in the area now known as Copper
Mountain. In about 1880, John S. Wheeler, a judge, established a
settlement at the junction between the mountain ranges of Ten Mile and Gore.
The old original town's buildings can still be seen in the area near the base
of the Alpine Lift. If you're exploring in the summer months, you'll find the
old dilapidated structures scattered along the back nine holes of the
mountain's Copper Creek Golf
Course. Judge Wheeler recognized the potential for recreational development
and promoted the area as a destination river trout fishing, hunting and
horseback riding retreat.
Centuries before the rush of
the 1800's,
the area was home to the Ute and Arapaho Indians who fished the streams and
rivers, trapped
beaver and hunted deer, buffalo, elk and bear. Of course, they also enjoyed,
respected and reveled in the natural beauty and scenery created many thousands of
years before and the abundant snow and sunshine that is re-enacted each and
every day,
season after season and year after year. We will pay you a rebate of the sales
price to invest in this spectacular

The Copper Mountain settlement known as Wheeler Junction boomed.
Miners, loggers, fur traders hunters and prospectors staked claims and made
Wheeler Junction their new Summit County home. An energetic and wild boarding house in town offered
rare
amenities such as china dishes, authentic silverware and tablecloths in the
middle of a rough and tumble, survival of the fittest, rustic town. Dances, balls and card parties
occupied the night time as settlers sought their fortunes in the rich opportunities
the area offered. The night life there today can still be on the wild side if
you so desire to venture there.
The resort has
earned a reputation as the most nearly "perfect ski mountain" in the United
States. This distinction is due in large part to an award winning ski trail
system. The trails enhance the Copper Mountain's already special real estate
features. Naturally divided terrain actually separates skiers and boarders by
their levels of ability. Copper Mountain ski resort really energizes after the lifts
have closed for the day and the night life begins.
It was in 1971 when Chuck
Lewis, Copper Mountain's founder, took one look at the real estate and said, "I'm gonna build me one killer ski resort
here." He
commenced negotiations on a deal to purchase the 280 acres at the base and
worked with the Forestry Service to create parameters and guidelines for the
ski area. During the summer of 1971, initial construction
began on the ski trails.
As time passed, new lifts were added and the property grew to
its current size of 2,433 acres. This area claims the status of Summit
County Colorado's largest ski area. What was once just a little day trip ski
area has grown to one of Colorado's premier year-round destination Summit
County resorts. In 1997, the resort was purchased by a company known as Intrawest - a worldwide
leader in vacation resort operations. Whether you are new to the area or have 30 years
worth of memories here, you'll be amazed at the changes on the
horizon for the upcoming seasons. We'll see you there!
